Scholar

Some haemotheurges specialize heavily in a particular school of magic, attuning their body to it above all others. In exchange, they sacrifice some flexibility, as their focused study of one school means that some others must go unresearched.

Arcane School (Su)

At 1st level, the scholar selects an arcane school from the list: Arcane Schools. Each school grants certain unique powers. He learns any 1st-level powers of the school at 1st level, and any higher-level powers at 9th level. In addition, he gains an additional spell slot of every level that he can cast. However, these bonus spell slots may only be used to prepare spells of the scholar's favored school.

In exchange, he must select two opposition schools. A scholar who prepares spells from his opposition schools must use two spell slots of that level to prepare the spell. For example, a scholar with evocation as an opposition school must expend two of his available 3rd-level spell slots to prepare a fireball. In addition, a scholar takes a –4 penalty on any skill checks made when crafting a magic item that has a spell from one of his opposition schools as a prerequisite.

This ability replaces the bloodline powers gained at 1st and 9th levels.

School Spells (Su)

Beginning at 3rd level, the scholar may learn any spell from his favored school in place of the bloodline spell he would normally learn at that level. The spell need not be on the sorcerer/wizard spell list, so long as it is of the favored school. However, the spell must be of the same or lower level as the bloodline spell he would have learned. The scholar loses the ability to spontaneously cast his bloodline spells from an appropriate spell slot.

This ability modifies bloodline spells.
