Preceptor

Whether serving as staff at a school of haemotheurgy, or more often acting as a wandering teacher, a preceptor has an apprentice who trades service to him in exchange for lessons in blood magic.

Apprentice (Ex)

At 1st level, a preceptor acquires the services of a loyal apprentice. She functions similarly to a cohort, though your apprentice begins as a 1st-level commoner with Magical Aptitude as their 1st-level feat and weak ability scores (13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 before racial modifiers). When the preceptor reaches 3rd level, the apprentice may complete her rites, becoming a 1st-level haemotheurge (with no archetype), and she gains heroic ability scores (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 before racial modifiers). The preceptor must be able to provide a vial of blood suitable for introducing a bloodline to his apprentice. The promoted apprentice only earns 1/2 of the experience attained by her preceptor, but otherwise gains levels normally.

Each time the preceptor gains a level, he may choose to dismiss his existing apprentice as graduated (or expelled, depending on her performance), and gain a new apprentice at the same level and experience as the previous. If an apprentice dies in service to the preceptor, the next apprentice the preceptor takes must be two full levels lower than the last (minimum 1/4 of the preceptor's level, rounded up), unless the preceptor pays for the apprentice's resurrection/reincarnation. A preceptor is never required to dismiss an apprentice.

A preceptor who has 10 apprentices die while under his tutelage loses all abilities granted by this archetype. He can regain them only by resurrecting or reincarnating a dead apprentice. Apprentices who have been resurrected or reincarnated at the preceptor's expense, or who have willingly become sentient undead (such as liches) do not count against this limit.

This ability replaces all bloodline powers and spells.

Teamwork Feat (Su)

Starting at 7th level, the preceptor can take a teamwork feat or the Cooperative Crafting feat in place of a bloodline feat. As long as his apprentice is within 60 feet, the apprentice gains all such teamwork feats as bonus feats. The apprentice does not have to meet the feat’s prerequisites.

This ability modifies bloodline feats.
