Trail Chef

Some cowboys specialize in preparing top-quality meals, making the most of the resources they have to make life on the trail easier and more enjoyable for themselves and their comrades.

Foraging (Ex)

So long as there are edible plants and wildlife in the area, a Trail Chef can always forage enough food for four Medium creatures. At 2nd level, and every 4 levels thereafter, the number of creatures increases by one, up to 9 creatures at 18th level. It takes one hour to forage this much food.

This ability replaces Wild Empathy

Comfort Food (Ex)

Beginning at 2nd level, a Trail Chef can prepare a meal for himself and his travel companions. The number of creatures he can prepare a meal for is equal to the number he can Forage for. This ability can be used once per day, and its benefits last for 24 hours. A creature can only benefit from one Comfort Food meal at a time; should it eat another before the 24 hours elapses, the second meal's effects supplant the first. A meal requires 30 minutes to prepare and eat.

When preparing a meal, the trail chef chooses from the following types:

  • Hearty Meal: This meal provides a +1 morale bonus to saving throws.

  • Sweet Meal: This meal provides a +5 bonus to movement speed.

  • Savory Meal: This meal provides 1 temporary hit point per character level of the Trail Chef.

  • Light Meal: This meal provides a +1 morale bonus to AC.

  • Spicy Meal: This meal provides a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls

  • Rousing Meal: This meal grants one additional attack of opportunity per round.

This ability replaces the Favored Terrain normally gained at 2nd level.

Multi-Course Dinner (Ex)

Beginning at 6th level, the trail chef can prepare a second course with a meal. He chooses one additional effect from the Comfort Food list; all who eat the meal benefit from both effects. When this ability is used, the meal takes an additional 15 minutes to prepare and eat.

For every 4 levels after 6th, the trail chef can prepare one additional course, up to 5 courses at 18th level. Each course grants an additional Comfort Food effect, and takes an additional 15 minutes to prepare and eat.

This ability replaces the Favored Terrains normally gained at 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th levels.
