Breathers
Sometimes, your characters might be worn down but not quite ready to turn in for the night; perhaps you've just started the day and shot your bolt already, or a series of grueling encounters has worn you down, but you fear what the dungeon boss might do whilst you sleep.
Breathers are an optional rule your DM may allow you to use in just these situations. When you take a breather, you sit down, dress your wounds, catch your breath, and re-prepare yourself for the road ahead. A breather takes 30 minutes, and must be uninterrupted.
You may take a breather up to twice per day; beyond this, your stamina can only be restored with a night's rest. Taking a breather has the following effects:
You heal an amount equal to 25% of your max HP
If you have abilities or feats with a limited number of uses per day (other than spells), such as a samurai's Challenge, you regain one use for one of those abilities
If you have abilities that provide you with a pool of points to use, such as a gunslinger's Grit, you regain 20% (minimum 1) of the points for one such ability
If you have spell slots, you regain one expended spell slot with a level up to 1 lower than the highest level you can cast (minimum 1st level)
