Cavalryman
Mount (Ex)
At 3rd level, a cavalryman gains the service of a loyal and trusty steed to carry him into battle. This mount functions as the Samurai ability of the same name.
Challenge (Ex)
Once per day, a cavalryman can challenge a foe to combat. As a swift action, the cavalryman chooses one target within sight to challenge. The cavalryman’s attacks in melee (including attacks made with ranged weapons) deal extra damage whenever the attacks are made against the target of his challenge. This extra damage is equal to half the cavalryman’s Soldier level (minimum 1). The cavalryman can use this ability once per day at 3rd level, plus one additional time per day for every three levels thereafter.
Challenging a foe requires much of the cavalryman’s concentration. The cavalryman takes a –2 penalty to his Armor Class during a challenge.
The challenge remains in effect until the target is dead or unconscious or until the combat ends.
Gallant Charge (Ex)
At 7th level, a cavalryman learns to make more accurate charge attacks while mounted. The cavalryman increases his charge bonus to attack rolls by +2 while mounted. In addition, the cavalryman does not suffer any penalty to his AC after making a charge attack while mounted.
Saber and Pistol (Ex)
At 11th level, a cavalryman no longer suffers the usual penalties for two-weapon fighting, provided that one of the weapons is a one-handed firearm and the other is a one-handed or light melee weapon.
Intrepid Charge (Ex)
At 15th level, a cavalryman learns to make more powerful charge attacks while mounted. The cavalryman deals double damage, stacking additively with other such abilities, on all charge attacks.
Ultimate Challenge (Ex)
At 19th level, whenever a cavalryman declares a challenge, his target must pay attention to the threat he poses. As long as the target is within the threatened area of the cavalryman, it takes a –2 penalty to its AC from attacks made by anyone other than the cavalryman, but gains a +2 on attacks against the cavalryman. Further, challenged foes may not make any attacks, including attacks of opportunity, against creatures other than the cavalryman. It may also not specifically target other creatures with spells and the like (though it may use area of effect spells and abilities, provided the cavalryman is at the center of the area of effect).
